ADIH: 1990-2008. 30 YEARS OF ADVOCACY FOR THE PRIVATE SECTOR
Since its creation almost thirty years ago ADIH has been at the forefront in the promotion and the defense of the interests of Haiti’s industrial sector.
1980
Creation of the Association of Industries of Haiti
1984
ADIH launches the first Joint Economic Commission, with private and public sector representatives.
1984/85
Elaboration, implementation and promotion of mortgage banks and a development bank (SOFIHDES)
1987
Advocacy for market access laws, new Customs Code, new Investment Code, and also for the restructuring of social security and workers’ compensation administrations
1988
Creation of the Industries of Haiti Foundation (FONDIH)
1988/90
Advocacy for the liberalization the foreign exchange market
1989/90
Negotiations for textile quotas for Haiti.
1990
Establishment of a quota system and obtaining of licenses for the grouping of sugar
importation to the benefit of the beverage industry
1991
Participation in the White Paper of the Haitian private sector
1991/94
Setting up and management of the escrow accounts for the collection of taxes from foreign companies, allowing them to continue to operate during the embargo years.
1995
Agreement with the Haiti Electric Company to establish the industrial areas of Port-au-Prince as a priority sector
Participation in the Presidential Commission for Growth and Modernization
1998
Participation in the revision of the Labor Code as a member of the Tripartite Consulting and Arbitration Committee
Initiated the creation of a Committee on Customs Facilitation
Participation in the creation of Haiti Tec, an institution dedicated to technical and vocational training
1999
Agreement with the Customs Administration to implement a system of fast-track procedures for the assembly industry
Membership in the Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production (WRAP) organization
Negotiations with the Haitian government for the installation of a customs office inside the SONAPI Industrial Park
2000
Participation in the Hispaniola Fund Initiative
Agreement for mutual cooperation with the Dominican Free Zone Association (ADOZONA)
2001
Successful lobby for the opening of an office of the Ministry of Trade and Industry in SONAPI for the delivery of export permits
Coordination of a project for training in quality control and industrial mechanics with the Fund for Corporate Training (FAFEN)
2004
Partnership with Caribbean Central-American Action (CCAA) for the management of a project to upgrade Haiti’s ports to the new ISPS Code
Elaboration of an HIV/AIDS awareness program and assistance to factory workers
Member of the National Anti-smuggling Committe
2005
Active participation in the creation and establishment of the Center for Investment Facilitation (CFI)
Merger with the Association of National Producers (APRONA)
2003/06
Advocacy and lobbying in Washington, DC, for increased duty-free access of Haitian garments to the United States, through the HOPE (Hemispheric Opportunity for Partnership Encouragement) Act
2007/08
Advocacy and lobbying in Washington, DC, for the extension of the benefits granted by the HOPE Act of 2006
